July/August
The Jubilee Playground - date TBD
The final event of the Jubilee celebrations will be the
re-opening of the
village playground,
which is to be renamed the Jubilee Playground.
On 8th June 1974 Brigadier Tryon-Wilson of Dallam Tower opened the
first playground in the village.
Last year, for safety reasons, the
life-expired playground equipment had to be removed, but over the
last two years a committee of local residents have raised more than
£11,000 for new equipment, thanks to donations from local charities and funds,
the Frieda Scott Charitable Trust,
from the Hadfield Charitable Trust
from South Lakeland District Council, from Cumbria County Council
Neighbourhood Forum, and by dint of their own efforts.
It is proposed to re-open the playground and unveil a commemorative
plaque either during the last weekend in July or the first weekend in
August, subject to the completion of the installation of the new equipment
which will be supplied by the
Haverthwaite-based firm, Playdale.
The above program compiled from information from various sources
including Heversham Parish Council.
