MEETINGS start with some brief WI business, and a catch up of news, followed by a talk or demonstration by a guest speaker. Coffee or tea and biscuits are served by members on a rota basis. The members take a hand in planning the programme each year.
SUBSCRIPTION for 2005 is £21.00 ,which is divided by the Heversham WI, Cumbria-Westmorland Federation of WIs and the NFWI. Subscriptions are due in January, when a membership booklet is issued which contains a membership card.
DALLAM GROUP OF WIs includes eight Institutes - Arnside, Arnside Knott, Beetham, Burton, Heversham, Holme, Milnthorpe and Silverdale. Group meetings take place at least twice yearly in the Spring and Autumn.
CONTACT AREAS are made up of several Groups and each is looked after by WI Advisors (WIAs) who are WI members specially trained to advise WIs.
CUMBRIA-WESTMORLAND FEDERATION OF WIs acts as an umbrella body for ninety WIs with more than 2600 members in total. The Federation office is at The Masonic Hall, Station Road, Kendal LA9 6BT. The telephone number is 01539 720921.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING is a national meeting attended by link WI delegates from around the country.
RESOLUTIONS on social and topical matters, submitted by individual WIs are selected and discussed thoroughly at all levels. If carried at a General Meeting they become a mandate for the WI to lobby and influence local and national policy making.
DENMAN COLLEGE is the WI's own residential college near Oxford. There is money available for a bursary which members can apply for to attend a course. You can look at the course programme at the WI meeting - there are courses to interest everyone !
ASSOCIATED COUNTRY WOMEN of the WORLD (ACWW) is a worldwide organisation to which the NFWI belongs. Its members total nine million women in over three hundred organisations throughout the world. Each WI donates money to ACWW, which is used to help underprivileged women worldwide.
WI MARKETS Our nearest market is at Milnthorpe on Fridays, Mar to Dec, in the Memorial Hall from 10.00 - 11.15 a.m.
WI NEWS is a monthly newsletter for the Cumbria-Westmorland FWI to keep you in touch with events around The County Federation.
HOME AND COUNTRY is the WI's own national 'glossy' magazine available on sale through your WI. Ask Margaret Batty about an annual subscription.
WI BOOKS AND MERCHANDISE are available for sale at the County Federation Office. WI diaries and calendars are available each autumn.
PRESS reports of our activities are sent to the Westmorland Gazette by our Press Secretary Muriel Bolton.
