The Old School at Saint Peter's Parish Church, Heversham

The Old School was constructed in 1839 to serve as St. Peter's Sunday School and as a Church of England Girls' Day School - though in fact boys were also admitted from the outset. Its construction was funded by James Gandy of Heaves, whose initials appear on the south gable. With a growing number of pupils the Day School moved to its present site in Leasgill in 1891. This building has since then served as the Sunday School and as a venue for many Parish groups and functions.

In 2002, it was extensively refurbished: the roof was re-slated, the sanitation was improved, and access was facilitated by moving the main door from the north to the west side and by laying a well-graded path from there to the Heversham House gate and the west door of the church.

The funds came partly from a public appeal and partly from bequests under the wills of Norman and Eva Kilshaw, who died in 1993 and 1999 respectively. Norman was for many years a Church Warden at St. Peter's. In recognition of this generous bequest the Parochial Church Council decided that this, the principal room in the building, should be named The Kilshaw Room.
