A rhythm and Blues gig in The Athenaeum raised £430 for the mental health charity MIND. Both ‘Acropolis’ and ‘From Scratch’ played music from the 60s, 70s and 80s and about 85 people had a great time dancing and soaking up the lively atmosphere. Jenny Sisson has now raised more than £2,600 for the charity, mainly from sponsorship, for a 460-kilometre cycle ride she is taking part in, in Vietnam, in November.

St Peter’s Church was well-filled for the joint service for the Heversham and Milnthorpe congregations. The service was attended by Bibi Nedellic, who is on leave from her Bible translation work for the people of Benin. Bibi read the lesson and the prayers were led by Rhona Rutter. The vicar, Canon John Hancock, baptised his granddaughter, Lucy Alexandra.
