The bowling club winter afternoon activities of dominoes, whist and
bridge li~ave come to an end.
The green will open for the new season tomorrow (Saturday).
The club is to play in the South Lakeland Rural Bowling League on
Friday evenings starting on April 12 away to Allithwaite and in the South
Westmormand Seniors Bowling League Division C starting April 15,
at home to Endmoor.
Muriel and Harry Hamer were elected captains of the respective
teams at a meeting of players held in the clubhouse at Leasgill.
Three annual meetings relating to
St Peter’s Church
were held in the Old School under the chairmanship of the vicar, the Rev Canon John
Hancock.
First came the open PCC meeting, which dealt mainly with the annual
accounts and the budget for the current yeaz There was a small
surplus of income over expenditure for only the second time in six years,
which resulted in an increase in reserves, but the budget anticipates
a small deficit for 2002.
The second meeting was the Vestry Meeting, which is solely
concerned with the election of the churchwardens; the three serving
wardens, Tony Hesmondhalgh, John Sowerby and Joan Anderton, were
re-elected.
The final meeting was the annual parochial church meeting which
received the vicar’s annual report and approved the accounts.
Dr Dorothy Williams gave the Deanery Synod report
on behalf of the church’s synod reprentatives, who
were all re-elected, as were all those acting as sidesmen.
Sir Christopher Audland continues as secretary.
The committee, which organises the
Heversham Children’s Christmas Party
held the annual jumble sal in the Athenaeum,
raising £350 for the party funds.
Leader Judy Dyer and Audrey Wynne took the Heversham St
F~ter’s Junior Handboll Ringer, to the Handbell Ringers of Great
Britain north west regional spring held at Clawthor~ Hall. This
consisted of a workshop, mass ringing and solo items. The St Peter’s
team performed three items from their repertoire during the afternoon
session.
