Heversham Community News - 17th May 2002

The playground was again high on the agenda at the meeting of the parish council. It was reported that the hedge on the north side had been laid and fenced and that revised layouts based on a price of £11,500 had been received from Playdale, the contractors, and that the money would be best spent on the Reggae (climbing frame) and log walks (but no swings). Playdale also agreed that an extra £600* worth of equipment would be provided free of charge. The clerk was asked to order the equipment and arrange for an installation date with Playdale. The council discussed the raising of further funds for the playground and it was felt that a management committee should be established.

It was noted events to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, organised independently of the parish council, include a parish boundary walk, a Jubilee dance on June 1, a garden party at the Bluebell on June 2, and bonfire and fireworks on the Head on June 3**.

The clerk said he would have completed five years’ service on March 31, 2003 and intends to resign.

It was reported that the church clock was not working and it should be repaired, and that some trees have been removed from the east side of Quarry Wood.

At morning service at St Peter’s Church the preacher was the Rgt Rev Maurice Sinclair formerly Bishop of Northern Argentina. The organist was Arthur Dewhurst.
