Heversham Community News - 14th September 2001

Morning service at St Peter’s Church was conducted by Elizabeth Bennett who had just recently been licensed as reader at a special service in Workington. Elizabeth also showed the congregation a colourful banner she and Jean Sowerby had made.

The banner had a Lakeland motif and contains the words Jesus es el Senor (Jesus is Lord), and will be sent to a church at Tartagel in South America that Mrs Bennett had visited during the year.

John Alcock beat Janis Labsvirs in the final of the Bowling Club’s first singles competition. He received the Leasgill Trophy from Maureen and Gordon Coleclough who have provided a salver to be competed for annually. John overcame Peter Shaw in the semi-final whilst Janis defeated Fred Walker.

The Bowling Club played friendly matches against local clubs. Travelling to Milnthorpe they lost 4-2. Arnside Seniors were then entertained at Leasgill. Arnside winning 5-2.
