Heversham Community News - 7th December 2001It was agreed at the parish council meeting that the parish precept should be kept at £3,500, the same as the previous year. Any costs incurred by celebrations of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee will be raised separately. It was noted that the Model Code of Conduct for councillors came into force on November 27. In order to remain in office parish councillors must sign up to the code. The long-running matter of the hedge on the Low Road continues to have the attention of the council. Cumbria County Council has now written to the agents for the owners of the adjacent land requesting that they arrange to have the hedge inspected and the necessary maintenance work carried out. All footpaths in the parish are open. The containers for paper, etc for recycling installed at Dallam School car park will be removed in mid January. There will be no meeting of the council in December and the next meeting will be on January 21. Saturday was a gift day at St Peter’s Church when the vicar and officials received donations towards the cost of essential repairs to the Old School and to the cost of internal improvements in church. The total cost is £74,000, but from other sources £47,500 is available leaving a further £27,500 to be raised. During the weekend an amount of £16,888 was given. The appeal continues and donations may be for the Old School repairs, for the church improvements, or for either project.
