Heversham Community News - 4th May 2001The Indoor Bowling Club ended the season with a party during which the singles final was played between John Smith and John Teskey. The captain, Eric Schofield presented the Priory Building Trophy to John Teskey, the winner after a close match. The evening concluded with whist and quizzes. Before starting its meeting members of the parish council noted with great regret the death of Brigadier Tryon-Wilson of Dallam Tower. Among the matters dealt with the council received confirmation from Cumbria County Council that they accepted responsibility for cutting grass at the east end of Mabbin Hall Lane. The car boot sale for the Playground Working Committee had been cancelled, but finances will benefit by a further grant of £3,000 which has been promised. The removal of the roundabout and the making good of the area has been completed. Two ideas have been received by the council for the celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee and further ideas are being sought all of which will be voted on at the August meeting. To deal with the problem of street lighting near the church, it was suggested that the timing of the light on the church tower should be changed so that the light comes on when the church floodlighting goes off. The next parish council meeting will be on May 21.
