ST PETER’S Church
welcomed the Carlisle Cathedral Youth Choir and
conductor David Gibbs, assistant organist at the cathedral, for a
Saturday evening concert of choral and organ music.
The concert included items by the choir, and a
solo by J.S. Bach sung by Jo Mottershead. Nick Brown, a recent
Radio 2 Chorister of the Year, also sang a solo from music by Vaughan
Williams and there were organ pieces by Darren Williams.
Donations were received for St
Thomas’s, Milnthorpe, Raise the
Roof appeal. The choir also took
part in the main Sunday morning
service with motets sung during the
communion and in leading the
hymns.
THE garden of Heversham House
will be open from 2pm on Sunday,
August 11, when cream teas will be
served. All proceeds are for
Alzheimer’s Disease funds.
GORDON Coleclough won the
Bowling Club Blue Bell Trophy
singles competition beating Muriel
Hamer 21-17 in a closely fought
final. He received the trophy from
Susan and Richard Cowie,
managers of The Blue Bell Hotel at
Heversham, who have provided a
magnificent claret jug to be
competed for annually. Gordon
overcame Harry Hamer 21-13 in
the semi-final, while Muriel
defeated John Smith 21-15.
